Solar Rebate Victoria

Solar Rebate

If you live in Victoria and are planning to install a solar PV system for the first time, you’re in luck.

The Victorian Government has recently launched the Solar Homes Package – an initiative that makes the installation of new solar PV systems more affordable for Australian households.

From 19 August 2018 to 30 June 2019, eligible households can avail a 50% rebate on the cost of a new solar PV system up to a maximum amount of $2,225. Alternatively, eligible participants can avail a $1,000 rebate on the cost of a solar hot water system.

This package makes installing a new solar PV system more affordable than ever, allowing eligible participants to pay only half its cost.

The Victorian Government has currently allotted rebates for around 24,000 eligible households under this initiative.

Are You Eligible?

To be eligible to apply for this government solar rebate in Victoria, you must:

  • Have no other solar panel system installed on your property. (If you have an existing solar PV system, then that system must have been classified as an early adopter system and installed before 01 November 2009, which was when the Premium Feed-In Tariff (PFIT) commenced.)
  • Have a combined household taxable income of less than $180,000 per annum, based on your tax assessment for FY 2017-2018.
  • Own and occupy a home valued less than $3,000,000.
  • Work with a Clean Energy Council (CEC) Accredited Installer.
  • Be installing a CEC Approved Product.
  • Be installing your solar panel system on or after 19 August 2018.

If you’re a tenant under a not-for-profit community housing provider and you meet these requirements, then your housing provider can apply on your behalf.

Required Documentation

To claim a rebate, you’ll need to present a variety of documents to support your eligibility and the prove the quality of installation of your new solar PV system. Make sure your solar company and technicians can give you paper and electronic copies of the following documents:

Working with Accredited Installers

To qualify for the rebate, your new solar PV system must be installed by CEC Accredited Installers. This will ensure that your system complies with Australian standards and industry best practices.

There are currently over 5,000 CEC Accredited installers in Australia, and you can find a qualified technician here.

Sure Solar is proudly one of Australia’s CEC Accredited installers, and we can install your new rooftop solar PV system and make you eligible for the Solar Rebate Victoria scheme if you meet the other criteria.

Installing Approved Products

Aside from working with CEC Accredited technicians, your new solar PV system must also use CEC Approved products. This includes all modules, inverters, and power conversion equipment (PCE) for your system. By requiring the use of approved products, this government solar rebate in Victoria ensures that your new system will meet Australian Standards for design, installation, and safety. You can view the full list of CEC approved products and find out more for this requirement.

Getting Regular Audits

As part of this initiative, Solar Victoria will conduct regular audits of installed systems using this package. This will help ensure that all installed systems meet the safety and quality standards for installation and use. Any installer or product that does not meet Australian Standards will also be removed from Solar Victoria’s current list of approved technicians and products.
